The Regal Stationery & Computer Centre over 35 (males) 20/20 & females open 10/10 softball cricket tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport continued with Rangers XI demolishing P&B XI and Regal XI mauling Linden All Stars to book semifinal spots.
Rangers XI, the current West Demerara Champions made light work of P&B XI in their quarterfinal game played at Leonora Primary School Ground.
P&B XI won the toss and batted and were soon in trouble losing opening bat Wallack Joseph with only 7 runs on the board in the third over bowled by left arm quick Devanand Singh. Fallim Mohamed (63;3×6;2×4) and Mark Marlowe (37;2×6;1×4) repaired the damaged in a partnership of 82, but the scoring rate was below 3 as they took some 60 balls to achieved that as the bowling of Rangers XI was on target.
Marlowe was dismissed going for a big hit over mid wicket with the ball taking the outer edge and ballooning to mid off where Asif Ahamad took an easy catch. That loss saw some 4 more wickets tumbling in quick succession as the pressure started to build in the face of Rangers XI accurate bowling.
P&B XI eventually folded for 133 as all rounder Hemendra Kowlessar bowling quick and straight was almost unplayable taking 4-20 from 3.1 overs as P&B XI could only bat 18.1 of their maximum 20 overs. Kowlessar was well supported by another all rounder in Asif Ahamad who took 3-20 from his 4 overs.
Rangers in their turn started badly losing 3 wickets with only 25 on the board off 3 overs but with the two all rounders Asif Ahamad (53 not out) and Hemendra Kowlessar (49), who turn things around in a partnership of 99 off 66 balls, they took the wind out of the P&B XI and the match also. Hemendra Kowlessar was named man-of-the-match for his top all round performance.
In the other quarterfinal match played at Bayrock Ground in Linden, Regal XI mauled Linden All Stars XI as the former stamped their class on proceedings. Linden All Stars XI won the toss and batted scoring a challenging 172 -8 off 20 overs with Wayne Williams slamming an even 50 and supported by Neldan Duke with 23. Bowling for Regal XI was Samuel Kingston with 2-17 from 4 overs.
When Regal XI took to the crease, all hell broke loose as Samuel Kingston 68 not out (8×6) and Mark Fung 67 not out ( 8×6) clobbered the bowling to all parts with some lusty hitting leaving the Lindeners bewildered. The partnership was worth 160 off 40 balls. Regal XI raced to 176-1 off 10.4 overs to build a superior run rate in the competition. Samuel Kingston was named man-of-the-match in this encounter for his good all round performance.
In the female category Ituni Warriors (the Linden Champions) exacted revenge for their male counterparts by hammering Marshon Sports Club by 9 wkts.
Marshon Sports Club females batted first and scored 65-6 in their 10 overs with Natasha Parsram scoring 25 (2×4) and in partnership with Nikesha Singh (2×4) took Marshon SC to their eventual score. Bowling for Ituni Warriors Shevon McDonald took 2-17 from 2 overs.
Ituni Warriors in their turn at the crease seem to be in a hurry and raced to 68-1 off 4.4 overs with Donnette Daniels 30 not out ( 2×6;2×4) off 11 balls and Yonisha Wilson 16 not out (3×4) off 5 balls sealed victory.
Ituni Warriors have now advanced to the semifinals and will await the results of the other quarterfinals.
