The much touted Scotia Bank / Pepsi Football Academy is set to be officially opened today with a March Past of participating teams, at the Carifesta Sports Complex on Carifesta Avenue, starting from 09:00 hrs.
According to a release from the Organising Committee, the schools who’ve so far been earmarked to commence participation in the competition are Queen’s College, Tucville Secondary, Lodge, Christ Church, St. George’s, Tutorial High, East Ruimveldt and North Georgetown.
Among the officials expected to be there are: Minister of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, Director of Sport Neil Kumar, Minister of Education Shaik Baksh, who is anticipated to deliver the key note address, Scotia Bank Marketing Manager Jennifer Cipriani-Nelson, Pepsi Brand Manager Marlon Gravesande, members of the Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF), whose brainchild it was to initiate the Academy, Guyana Football Federation President Colin Klass and teachers and students of representative schools.
The schools are fully equipped with all the related gears compliments of the sponsors and alumni associations overseas, while they also went through preliminary preparations pertaining to refereeing and skills training prior to the commencement of the tournament.
A large turnout is expected and the aim according to GSDF member Colin Baker is to improve the level of competence in the sport thereby making Guyana more competitive at the local, regional and international levels.
