The National Under-20 team arrived in Suriname yesterday afternoon just after 17:00hrs (Suriname time) 16:00hrs Guyana time ahead of their all important CONCACAF 2nd round qualifying matches.
The team left Guyana at 05:00hrs and were a tired bunch when they arrived at the Kranapolsky Hotel in the heart of the city, Paramaribo.
Head Coach Collie Hercules said that the journey was a bit tiring but they have a day to recuperate ahead of tomorrow’s opening match. The games will now be played at the Franklin Essed Stadium rather than the Andre Kamperveen Stadium which was originally advertised on the CONCACAF website.
The team will have a light session today as they focus first on taking care of business against Bermuda whom they play tomorrow at 17:00hrs local time.
Hercules expressed confidence that the team has put in the work during the time they spent in camp and it is now time to produce the goods for Guyana.
The team topping this group will earn the final spot at the 12 team CONCACAF finals which will be contested in April in Guatemala. The top four teams from the final will represent the Confederation at the Under-20 World Cup.
Meanwhile, the bus transporting the luggage of the players and officials was involved in an accident at Crabwood Creek, just outside the Nursery School.
Kaieteur Sports understands that the bus driven by Rudolph Juman collided with a Tapir which made a u-turn in front of the school. It is alleged that the Tapir, after the collision, spun and hit two school children who were standing on the road at the time. Despite the mishap, the luggage was transferred to another Tapir which allowed the players and officials to travel with same.
