A brazen drug addict allegedly made off with a businessman’s licensed handgun around 03:00 hrs yesterday and then shot at the victim when he tried to recover the firearm.
According to reports, the businessman, an auto dealer, was having an altercation with a female on Sheriff Street when his .32 Taurus pistol fell out of his ankle holster.
A man identified as a drug user allegedly picked up the firearm and fired two rounds at the businessman when he attempted to retrieve it.
The thief then fled into the Campbellville area.
Police, acting on information, visited the suspect’s Stone Avenue home where they retrieved the handgun and its ammunition.
They have also detained the alleged thief.
