Zeelandia have joined Good Success, Sans Souci and Maria’s Pleasure in the semifinals of the Salim Khan Speed Boat Service 40-over cricket competition after they defeated Noitgedacht by 29 runs in the final preliminary round game last Sunday at the Maria’s Pleasure cricket ground in Wakenaam.
In a match which was reduced to 35 overs, Zeelandia batted first and made 159 all out in 21 overs on an under prepared pitch. Nandkcoomar Boodram led with 47 while national Under-19 player Ricardo Adams contributed 30 and Dwarkanauth Jadukul 24 as pacer Anthony Osborne captured 4-27 while all-rounder Ahmad Khan took 2-17 and national U-15 pacer Hassan Mohamed 2-34.
Noitgedacht in their turn at the crease folded for 131 in 26 overs. Bert Ferguson top scored with 40, Victor Wong supported with 22 and Deonarine Persaud 17.
Jadukul with 4-41, Darmindra Pooran 3-26 and Adams 2-21 did the damage with the ball for the winners.
Zeelandia will now take on Sans Souci at Maria’s Pleasure in one of the semifinals while the next semifinal game, which was scheduled for last Sunday at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground and was called off because of unsuitable ground conditions (high grass), has been re-scheduled for Sunday at the same venue.
