The Guyana leg of the three-county Inter Guiana Games (IGG) commenced yesterday and Suriname drew first blood in the Chess tournament by getting past French Guiana by three and a half points to half of a point.
The Chess action continued yesterday at the Ocean View Hotel on the East Coast of Demerara with Suriname, Guyana’s Eastern Dutch neighbour, who won the Chess title last year, opposing host Guyana.
Today the action concludes with Guyana, who finished in the penultimate position last year, taking on French Guiana from noon at the same venue.
Yesterday Guyana launched their strongest challenge in the competition as their four-member team and reserve Crystal Khan facing the Suriname unit who like last year made a strong start to their campaign.
National Junior Champion 16-year-old Ron Motilall, Cecil Cox, Suhai Feng and Taffin Khan were locked in intense concentration against their Suriname opponents when Kaieteur Sport visited the Ocean View Hotel yesterday afternoon but up to press time the official results of yesterday matches were not available.
