A 33-year-old woman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) last night after she was stabbed multiple times by another female near the Stabroek Market Square area known as the ‘Gaza Strip.’
The victim, identified as Tahirah Dint Duke, of Linden, was stabbed in the stomach, side and forehead during the altercation, which occurred around 20:30hrs
Kaieteur News understands that Duke, who operates a shop in the interior, was drinking with friends at ‘the Gaza Strip’ when another woman, who had not been invited to the table, poured some wine that Duke had bought.
According to reports, Duke said “Big woman, yuh drinking me wine,” and this sparked off an altercation between the two women.
An eyewitness told police that the woman, known only as ‘Debbie’, drew a knife and stabbed Duke repeatedly. She was detained shortly after.
Duke was rushed to the GPHC’s Accident and Emergency Unit. She was still being treated there at press time.
Just last month, popular market vendor Letuica Rodriguez 31, called “Mama”, was knifed to death near the Stabroek Market, allegedly by her reputed husband’s former lover.
Eyewitnesses said that Rodriguez, of Breda Street Albouystown, was arguing with a man when the other woman came up and stabbed her in the chest.
The suspect, who fled the scene, is still at large.
