The long awaited commencement of the first phase of the US $400,000 FIFA GOAL Project has finally gotten underway at Orangestein, East Bank Essequibo.
Kaieteur Sport got the opportunity to have a first hand look at the start of work to clear the heavily forested location which according to Site Engineer Colin Bowen is expected to be completed by the end of next week after which direct infrastructural work will begin.
Speaking with President of the Guyana Football Federation Colin Klass, he informed that Alki Investments Inc. have been given the contract to construct the facility and has specified a timeframe of 3-5 months weather permitting to complete the first phase of the Project.
He further disclosed that the Project will initially have a training ground where games could be played and national teams practice, it will also be fenced and preliminary foundation set-up to accommodate further expansion expected to be done during the second phase pending FIFA’s approval.
