Participants urged to pass on knowledge
By Franklin Wilson
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) with funding from World governing body FIFA yesterday launched a Futsal Coaching Course at Banks DIH Sports Club, Thirst Park; the course running from May 19 – 23.
Facilitator of the course is FIFA Coaching Instructor Constantine Konstine who is on his second visit to Guyana having conducted a similar course a few years ago.
In declaring the course/seminar open, President of the GFF Colin Klass said that Futsal has been making waves around the world since being introduced and has its own World Cup, the last being held in Brazil.
He cited that fact that Futsal has been the catalyst for many of the big players on the world stage in the 11 a-side version of the game.
Klass, who is the Chairman of the CONCACAF Futsal and Beach Soccer Committees challenged the participants to utilise the programme to take them and Guyana forward noting that the Federation and FIFA will continue to make training available but they must see the returns on the investment.
“This training that we are making available to you must empower you to fuel the drive to have holistic development in the sport. Futsal in Guyana must not only take off but achieve the heights and depths I know we can.”
“Whatever information and knowledge you would have received over the next five days – you would have failed yourself, football and the federation if you don’t pass it on to others – sharing is vital to our development.”
Klass praised Banks DIH for their continued vision in investing and partnering with various sports associations and federations and especially football over the years.
“It is this kind of vision that has helped us to reach the heights we have soared to and gives us the platform to aim even higher for excellence.”
Marketing and sales Executive of Banks DIH Carlton Joao in his remarks declared that training is necessary in every stage of our lives and Banks had no hesitation in partnering with the GFF to facilitate the course.
“We will always be willing to reach out, especially when it comes to the primary nature of training – it is very important that we enable and empower those who can impart the knowledge to our footballers and officials.”
Football he said is known across Guyana and the world as a premier sport and is played almost by all. The Top Banks Executive also posited that sports, is used for discipline and for development of the athletes character at every level.
Joao noted the relevance of the programme to Guyana at this time which strengthens our ability to be competitive on the Regional and world stage.
“But we need to do a whole lot more to get Guyana’s football where we need it to be and one of the things is training – like what we are doing here today and the ensuing days. We need to enable those who can make the difference and in this case – the coaches.
This initiative is an excellent one and will go a far way towards our development.”
Joao stated that Banks DIH and Coca Cola’s commitment to football will remain unchanged.
Konstine in brief remarks thanked the GFF and FIFA for the opportunity to be able to impart knowledge to the coaches which would make the sport better.
He shared that he was here to educate, motivate and inspire the participants to greater heights.
Participants drawn from the various associations affiliated to the GFF will be engaged in classroom and practical sessions during the programme.
