Coordinator Lennox Arthur has disclosed that the Mayor’s Cup remaining fixtures has been revamped to support and enhance the latter part of the tournament which is in its quarter-final stage.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport yesterday, Arthur presented the revamped fixtures which will see the remaining quarter-finals being played on two separate days. This follows several postponements due to the inclement weather which left the Georgetown Football Club ground in an unplayable state on the previously scheduled match days.
With most of the big names gone including defending champs Pele, new Mayor’s Cup champs will be crowned on Sunday May 30, the new date fixed for the final.
Quarter-final play is set for Tuesday May 11 at the GFC with Santos opposing Seawall FC in what should be a keenly contested clash.
That game is the feature contest of the night which will open at 6:00pm with a mini tournament featuring half an hour games. Teams have been broken into two groups and the winner of both groups will walk away with a $30,000 prize.
The games on Tuesday with see Beavers facing GFC, Den Amstel playing YMCA, Young Achievers against Golden Grove and Uitvlugt versus Mahaica.
The next quarter-final is set for Sunday May 16 with BK International Western Tigers clashing with Fruta Conquerors.
That contest will be preceded by the other group of the exhibition tourney which will see Leopold Street versus Mocha, Campbellville face Timehri, Charlotte Street battle Grove and Tiger Bay tangle with Kitty.
The semis will be played on Friday May 21 with Riddim Squad against GDF, while the winners of the previous nights of action in the mini tournament set the stage as they fight for the $30,000 on offer.
The Second semi-final will be played on Sunday May 23 along with the other group of the mini tourney. The winners in both events advance to the final May 30. The mini tournament games will set the stage for the third place and final of the Mayor’s Cup Championship.
