Playing at the Heavenly Angels Ground, Number 68 All Stars XI convincingly beat Heavenly Angels XI by 25 runs to become the # 1 team in the Berbice Zone of the 4R Masters and Female Softball Cricket tournament organised by the Softball League.
Number 68 All Stars won the toss and batted first scoring a massive 180-3 in 15 overs with the in -form Christine Matheson hammering 54 off only 15 balls and she was supported by Chandrouttie Manohar with 37 as the two were involved in a partnership of 95 off 48 balls that took the country wide champions to their eventual score.
The bowling for Heavenly Angels was led by Berbice Player Tessa Parks 1-11 off 3 overs. The next best bowling figure was Jacqueline Singh another Berbice player with 1-38 from 3 overs.
When Heavenly Angels took to the crease they too started in a blaze and were rattling along at over 8 runs per over until the introduction of Christine Matheson who dismissed both Jacqueline Singh (57; 6×6) and Roshana Tyndall (30) in the space of 3 balls and the innings went into a slide as tight bowling caused the batters to play unorthodox shots and give their wickets away.
They lost five wickets in 3 overs for 13 runs and eventually ended on 155-8 in their allotted 15 overs. Christine Matheson returned with the ball to take 3-20 from her three overs and she was supported by opening bowler Nandranie Oudit with 2-24 from 3 overs. Even though they lost in the Berbice zone final Heavenly Angels will still be able to make the Quarter-finals along with Number 68 All Stars and Crabwood Creek United. Meanwhile, the rest of the quarter-finals from the other zones are as follows Georgetown/West Coast – Gaza Girls and Uitvlugt playing under the Trophy Stall Angels CC ; Linden – Coomacka Girls and Ituni Warriors, and they will be joined by the winner of the Essequibo zone with the their preliminary rounds due to start this weekend. Meanwhile the competition continues next Sunday.
