Bartica Beacons were too good for Ballers United to handle thus lifting the 2010 edition of the Bartica Regatta football competition sponsored by the Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company with a 2-0 win.
Beacon, reduced to 10 men on the stroke of half time when goal scorer Kenrick Wilkinson received marching orders from Referee Roland Persaud for dangerous play, outhustled Ballers in the second half after absorbing sustained pressure for about 20 minutes.
Bartica Beacon, GT&T Regatta football 2010 champs, collect their top prize after the contest.
Ballers, even with the player to player advantage found it difficult to convert many chances, luck surely favouring the winners whose second goal was netted by Whitney Welcome.
Beacons carted off the winners trophy and $130,000 while the losing finalist picked up $70,000 and a trophy. Third placed Potaro Strikers pocketed $50,000 and trophy but did not break a sweat since Rising Stars failed to put in an appearance.
The Executive of the Bartica Football Association said they will deal with the club for their no show.
Beacons’ Shawn John was named the tournament’s MVP while Brentnol Stoby of Potaro Strikers copped the best goalkeeper award.
