While this decade was dominated with the changing faces of some outstanding cadets and junior table tennis players like Trenace Lowe and Michelle John, who are now seniors, there is a definite changing of the guard in the sport.
Kaieteur Sport caught up with four of the new faces to have emerged over the last year at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall yesterday. They will represent Guyana at the Caribbean Cadet and Junior Championships in Puerto Rico.
Angela Rampersaud: I like playing table tennis. It’s a good experience for me to get some exposure and at least try to get to the top. I want to become a Caribbean Champion in both the teams and singles competition. I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Angelina Rampersaud: It means a lot to me to be able to represent my country and be on a national team. Table Tennis helps my physical outlet and it bonds my academics with sports. It is a privilege to be playing at this level and I just want to make my parents very proud.
Zane Humphrey: I am going for the exposure and the experience. I know that I can do well I just have to focus a bit more. Table Tennis in itself helps me to focus. It is mental practice for me and I am very happy to be on this team.
Ryan Naraine: This is a great chance for me. I want this opportunity to up my game. It’s a fun game and I get to relax. Table Tennis takes my mind off school work.
The Rampersaud sisters are competing in the Under-18 competition while Humphrey will also battle in the Under-18 group. Naraine is on the Under-13 Boys team. It will be the Rampersaud’s second exposure at this level while Humphrey and Naraine are both making their debut.
The competition in Puerto Rico starts on March 28 and concludes on April 9. Kaieteur Sport will continue to feature the large team in groups.
