As ECCA 40 overs competition commences
Unity Lancaster Sports Club (ULSC) defeated Stratehaven when action in the East Coast Cricket Association (ECCA) 40 overs cricket competition got underway at the Stratehaven playfield Sunday morning last.
A heavy burst of showers disrupted play shortly after the start and forced the umpires to shave off 12 overs from the match.
Stratehaven won the toss and invited ULSC to take first strike. They compiled 152-8 at the end of their allotted overs. P Samwaru lashed an unbeaten 46 for the eventual winners (3×4) while K Sukpersaud restricted Stratehaven to 119 in 25.2 overs.
V Rookram and R Ramato opened the batting for ULSC and compiled a stand of 28 before Ramato went, bowled G. Hemraj for 16. Lalchand Persaud came in and lashed 16 before he was sent back LBW to C. Hemraj.
Rookram was next out caught C. Hemraj, bowled N. Persaud for 11. Vishal Arjune next took to the crease and was subsequently joined by Premchand Samwaru shortly before the rains came with the score on 62-4.
Play resumed one hour later with Samwaru and Arjune continuing the rampage, adding 56 before Arjune fell LBW to C. Hemraj for a well struck 21(1×6 2×4).
M. Singh joined Samwaru and registered just 3 runs before he was sent back, bowled C. Sugrim. E. Jones added 9 to the total and was dismissed, caught N. Persaud, bowled Sugrim. K. Sukpersaud (2) and I. Mohamed (1) were the not out batsmen.
K. Sukpersaud then returned and bowled an incisive spell of medium pace to take 4-24. His victims were G. Sugrim (19), G. Hemraj (8), K. Alphonso (8) and Y. Bacchus (1). He received support from V. Arjune (2-17) and E. Jones (2-14)
ULSC would be in action once again this Sunday at the Unity Lancaster Sports Club ground against a team to be announced later.
