Mahendra Nandkishore was named Meten-Meer-Zorg Cricket Club’s Cricketer of the year when the club held its 2009 presentation ceremony and dinner on Monday evening at Caribbean Temptation on the West Coast of Demerara
Nandkishore, a left-arm spinner who bats right-handed, scored 515 runs and captured 23 wickets and also captured the award for the batsman with the most runs in the ‘A’ team.
The presentation of awards was done in 3 Categories; the under-19 team, ‘B’ team and ‘A’ team.
Off-spinner Vinod Rajkumar was awarded for being the bowler with the most wickets in the ‘A’ team with 30 wickets, Troy Khan copped the prize for the batsman with the most runs for the ‘B’ team with 230 runs while Off-spinner Atree Singh with 25 wickets was the highest wicket-taker for the B team.
Govinda Singh is the under-19 batsman of the year and Avinash Sookho is the under-19 bowler of the year.
Fast bowler Trevor Benn received a special award for gaining selection on the Guyana senior cricket team which will participate in this year’s Regional First-Class competition. Benn, who represents Essequibo at the senior Inter-County level, finished the West Demerara 2009 season as the second highest wicket-taker for Meten-meer-zorg ‘A’ with 23 wickets.
