Cricket buffs were treated to several exciting matches when the Power Stout Tapeball Cricket tournament organized by the Guyana Tapeball League in association with the Guyana Softball Cricket League got underway last Wednesday evening and continued into Thursday evening at the Banks DIH ground, Thirst Park Georgetown.
The competition was jointly sponsored by Banks DIH Ltd, Guyana National Shipping Corporation, Giftland Office Max and Rays Auto Spares. The majority of the fans that witnessed the matches left the venue quite satisfied after witnessing several exciting matches.
In the first match on the opening night, Kris International XI defeated Banks DIH by a 10 wickets after the home team batted first and scored a paltry 29-9 in their 6 overs. Kris International, led by an unbeaten knock of 20 from Chris Pattadin, knocked off the runs in 3.4 overs without losing a wicket. Brian Sankar (3-8 from 2 overs) was the chief wicket taker for the eventual winners.
In the second match, Dynas Bravados X1 defeated Bent Street XI by 28 runs after taking first strike and amassing 102-3 from 6 overs. Troy Cornelius (29) took the batting honours while Travis Davis (2-10 from 2 overs) was the pick of the bowlers. When it was their turn at the crease, Bent Street XI could only score 64-7 when their 6 overs ran out. Terry Ben (3-13 from 2 overs) took the bowling honours.
Georgetown Hospital then defeated Movie Star XI by 10 wickets after Movie Star XI lost the toss and was invited to take first strike. They made 28 all out in 5.5 overs with Kaleem Bux (5-5 from 2 overs) taking the bowling honours. Georgetown Hospital then lashed off the required total in 3.3 overs without losing a wicket. Chris Ragnauth top scored with 17 runs.
Other results are: Vipers XI defeated GNSC All Stars XI by 10 wickets. GNSC All Stars XI made 47-3 in 6 overs while Vipers XI made 48 without loss in 3.5 overs. Craig Old Road XI then defeated SSS Manufacturing XI by 8 wickets. The losers batted first and scored 69-4 in 6 overs. In reply Craig Old Road made 73-2 in 5.3 overs.
In Thursday night’s matches Bravados XI defeated Sunrise Sports Club by 8 wickets.
The latter team lost the toss and was inserted. They made 53-5 in 6 overs on the back of a sterling knock of 15 from Dave Suhkra.
Shoab Mohamed (2-8 from 1 over) stole the bowling honours. In reply Bravados XI made 59-2 in 5 overs after Raul Allicock lashed an unbeaten 29. Unrated XI then defeated Craig XI by 7 wickets. Their feat was emulated by Bengal Tigers XI who crushed Supernova XI by 44 runs.
Meanwhile, the organizers wish to remind team captains that players found dressed in short pants on the field will be subject to disciplinary action.
