ACDA gears up for Emancipation Day of Sports
The members of the African Cultural and Development Association (ACDA) Sports Committee will augment their yearly Emancipation celebrations with a Day of Sports on Saturday August 1, at the National Park, starting at 13:00hrs.
Already, ACDA has commenced its Emancipation activities with a domino competition at the Fire Service Canteen on Thursday, 22 last. Edward Beharry Domino team amassed 83 games to take top honours, while ACDA team marked 80 games to finish second. The Fire Service ended in the cellar with 72 games.
Rohini Ramkumar (16) and Vick Singh (15) were the scorers to lead Beharry’s charge. Mark Stazim (15) top scored for ACDA. Linden Freeman and Kari Persaud scored 15 games apiece, while Raul Barno and Curtis Liverpool marked 14 and 15 games, respectively for the Fire Service.
In other games played that day, Fireman Curtis Liverpool, representing the B Team, suffered a love at the hands of Mark Stazim of ACDA.
The tournament continued yesterday at the Fire Service Canteen. Teams vying for honours yesterday were ACDA ‘B,’ Fire Service ‘A’ and Black Stallion Warriors. Trophies, cash prizes and other incentives would be at stake.
Meanwhile, ACDA continues its Emancipation celebrations with several sports activities, organised by Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell. The activities have been arranged with an aim of fostering unity among the various clubs in Georgetown and its environs and would include teams from Georgetown, East Bank Demerara, East Coast Demerara and West Coast Berbice.
Competitors would vie for honours in circle tennis, softball cricket (male and female), tapeball cricket (male), small goal football matches, dominoes, 40 and 80 meters races for the blind, boxing displays, blind cricket, ice cream competition for the blind as well as children, among other events.
