He called on Federations and Associations with materials on sports to donate any excess to the Centre since the effort must be seen as a collaborative one.
Chairperson Conrad Plummer told the audience, the event was historic and the first few steps on a long journey have been made.
He advised that down the line, the Centre must move to stock the Biography and Autobiography of top Guyanese Sports Personalities.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport Keith Booker said that the launching of a library is a very important activity.
He added that a sportsman needs to know all the intricacies of their individual discipline, while lauding the whole idea of creating the Centre.
