Domino players country-wide are currently vying for lucrative prizes in the Machine Domino Club, in association with the Bartica Domino Association, domino extravaganza, currently being contested at several venues.
The tournament got underway June 8 and culminates with a two-day playoff on July 4 and 5. The tournament is being contested in honour of Cephil Collison.
Players would compete at various venues including Spot Seven in Freeman Street, East LaPenitence, Turning Point, Tucville, and the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), among others.
Players would vie for a first prize of $300,000 and a trophy. Each player of the winning team would also be given medals. The team that finishes in the second place gets $175,000, a trophy and medals, while the third place finisher receives $100,000, a trophy and medals. The 4th, 5th and 6th place finishers collect $50,000, $40,000 and $30,000 respectively.
A special prize of $5,000 would go to the player that registers the first double love in the competition, while the most outstanding player in the finals carts off $10,000. The respective zone winners will also cart off a lucrative $12,000 prize.
The organisers have also committed themselves to the provision of free accommodation for teams that qualify for the playoff. Entrance fee is $6,000 per team.
