Former Guyana First-Class Skipper, Damodar Daesrat hit a polished 51 to help Vikings beat defending champions, Cavalier in the second round of the Canadian cricket league over the weekend.
Daesrat, who turns 28 next month, scored two fifties and took 27 wickets from 16 First Class matches for Guyana, added 60 for the sixth wicket with fellow Berbician Ramnarine Chattergoon who made 20.
Sri Lankan Dilish Thurairatnam contributed 30 as Vikings fell for 165 in 48 overs in chilly conditions.
Former Guyana left-arm spinner and Canada Captain Sunil Dhaniram took 4-13.
The 41-year-old Dhaniram, who represented Guyana between 1993 and 1995 and played four ODIs for Canada, was supported by Abdool Samad, who captured 2-37 on a slow track.
Cavalier in reply were also in early trouble, losing their first six wickets for 51 runs.
However, an unbroken seventh-wicket stand of 41 between former Guyana wicketkeeper Azib Ali Haniff (29*) and his unrelated namesake and ex-Guyana batsman Zaheer Haniff (21*) took the score to 91-6 in 30 overs before a heavy shower ended the contest.
Vikings won the match by 24 runs on the Duckwort/Lewis system. Former Guyana under-15 pacer Kevin Murray took 3-22 for Vikings.
The competition continues this weekend.
