Guyana finished with a tally of seven medals, two silver and five bronze when the 14th Junior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships concluded at Marriott Dome, Frigate Bay, St Kitts/Nevis on Friday last.
This was after local players Trenace Lowe and Adeille Rosheuvel could only reached the semi-finals round of their singles competition, Nigel Bryan, Chelsea Edghill and Denzel Duff in the quarter-final, Brandon Baldie, Samuel Fraser, Dillon Mahadeo, and Akiecia Nedd in the last sixteen, while Stephan Patoir. and Kyle Edghill reached the round-of-32.
Lowe won her quarter-final in the Girls’ Under-18 before going out in the semi-final to Lizette Maldonado of Puerto Rico 3-4 while in the 15 years and under Adeille Rosheuvel went out in the semi-final to Zoe Rivera, also of Puerto Rico 3-4.
Bryan lost to Puerto Rican Manual Adorno 6-11, 11-4, 10-12,9-11 (1-3) in the 18 years and under singles, while in the 15 years and under singles, Denzel Duff suffered a loss to Puerto Rican Brandon Echevarria 11-9,3-11,6-11,6-11(1-3) and Chelsea Edghill went down to Puerto Rican Thalia Lopez 13-11,6-11, 8-11,4-11(3-1).
In the 18 years and under round of 16, Denzil Hopkinson was beaten by Jamaican Simon Tomlinson 3-11,6-11,9-11(0-3) and teammate Brandon Baldie then lost to Jamaica Kareem Flowers 5-11,8-11,9-11,(1-3), while 15 years and under boys Samuel Fraser lost to Trinidad & Tobago’s Aaron Wilson 11-8, 14-12, 4-11, 11-7 (3-1), teammate, Dillon Mahadeo suffered to Puerto Rican Xionel Feliciano 9-11,6-11,8-11 (3-0) and Akiecia Nedd was beaten by Puerto Rican Daniely Rios 11-6,11-4,11-2(3-0).
Guyana picked up five bronze medals: 15 years and under boy’s doubles – Denzil Duff and Stephan Patoir; 18 years and under boy’s doubles- Nigel Bryan and Denzil Hopkinson; 18 years and under girl’s doubles- Trenace Lowe and Varsha Panday; 18 years and under girls singles – Trenace Lowe; 15 years and under girls singles – Adeille Rosheuvel
And two silver medals: 15 years and under boy’s teams – Samuel Fraser, Stephan Patoir, Denzel Duff and Dillon Mahadeo; 15 years and under girl’s doubles – Adeille Rosheuvel and Chelsea Edghill.
Guyana team finished third overall behind Puerto Rico and Jamaica. Puerto Ricans took the 15 years and under boy’s and girl’s titles and the 18 years and under boy’s and girl’s titles.
The first part of the Guyana team will arrive home today, while the second part travels home tomorrow afternoon.
