Essequibo hold upper hand against Berbice despite Foo’s effort
Essequibo, were fighting back against Berbice on day one of their GTM Inter County three day match being played at the Anna Regina Community Centre ground on the Essequibo Coast.
After bowling out the hosts for 161, Jonathan Foo returning the remarkable figures of 9-53 from 25.1 overs, Berbice in reply were struggling at 72-6 with Seon Hetymer unbeaten on 20.
Manoj Poorannauth struck 29 for Berbice but the only other batman reaching double figures was Hemnarine Chattergoon (13).
The Cinderella County’s opening bowlers Rovi Harris (2-20) and Renford Beaton (2-37) have given their side a great chance of taking first innings points against the lads from the Ancient County.
Top scoring in Essequibo’s innings were Navin Singh with 38, Floyd Henry chipped in with 32, Herrell Green 31 and Rosyton Alkins 22.
The home team will be going all out to knock over the Berbicians early on the second day today and seek to put themselves into a winning position by positing a big second innings score before pushing for an outright win.
