Guyana Prison Service Chess team started their journey in intercontinental Inter-Prisons tournament this week.
Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Prison Service’s chess team commenced their Intercontinental Inter-Prisons Chess tournament which commenced Thursday.
The competition is being held using a round-robin Swiss system, which means there are no knockout rounds.
Guyana has won games against USA Kansas (4-0), Guyana Youth Team (4-0) and St. Lucia (3-1). However, Guyana lost games to El Salvador (1-3), Mexico (0-4) and USA Chicago (1-3).
The tournament concluded with Guyana ranking 13th out of 21 teams.
It is important to note that this event is sanctioned by the World Chess Federation (FIDE) and features teams from around the world, under the title – Chess for Freedom.
