Don’t be fooled, Alpha United will be ready for this Saturday’s clash with Tempete of Haiti in the Regional Club Football championship first leg tie at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground Bourda.
President of Alpha, Odinga Lumumba, spoke to Kaieteur Sport yesterday and said, “This is a horserace and we are going to run them down…” expressing confidence in his charges’ ability despite the ‘small glitch’ of losing the Mayor’s Cup on penalties to knockout kings Pele on Sunday last at the GFC ground.
Lumumba when questioned on the loss informed that the problem they were having was due to the coaching staff experimenting to find the right formation and combination up front. He said they had experimented with several formations and the coaches feel they have arrived at the right one following Sunday’s encounter with Pele.
The club boss noted the fact that they made five changes and even after falling 1-0 behind, never gave up and eventually forced the game into extra time. He pointed out that his strikers finished somewhat poorly having created several clear scoring opportunities but was optimistic that a different and more focused Alpha with take to the pitch on Saturday for this important engagement.
Lumumba informed that the recent loss was a wakeup call to his men and they are aware of their responsibility to themselves, club and all Guyana. He said fans will see a transformation come Saturday and will see a very attacking Alpha.
He noted the level of fitness in the camp which prompted him to inform that Tempete are in for the long haul and can expect a tough encounter.
The Haitian side is due in Guyana on Thursday and not much is known about them. However, they lost to Haiti’s national U-20 side during the Digicel Kick Start Clinic conducted by John Barnes.
Lumumba stated that while that result doesn’t really say much, he expects the opposition to be a tough unit which Alpha will be ready for and will attack.
The contest on Saturday is set to kick off at 7:30pm with a preceding contest between Pele and Western Tigers at 4:30pm to set the tone for the feature clash of the evening.
