Young Warriors, the 2008 National club champions, crushed Albion by 7-wickets to book the place in the final of the Associated Business Services 40 overs cricket competition after drawing a bye at the semifinal stage.
Batting first after winning the toss at the Canje ground, Albion were dismissed for a paltry 109 off 33.2 overs with Sahadeo Somai hitting 24, Jonathan Foo 19 and Orvin Mangru16.
Farouk Hussain spun out four batsmen for 16 runs with his off spinners and Charran Singh took 2-16 for Young Warriors who knocked off the runs posting 113-3 in 34 overs. Balram Samaroo was unbeaten on 34 when victory was achieved, Farouk Hussain 27 and Ishwar Singh 25. Ramnarine Chattergoon was Albion’s best bowler with 2-22.
Over at the Scottsburg ground, the home team lost to visitors Port Mourant with the latter advancing to the semi final.
Scottsburg were dismissed for 194, two balls less their 40 overs. Errol Byass scored an undefeated 30 and Peter Grimes 24. Rajender Arjune had 3-20 for Port Mourant who reached 195-9 with one ball to spare. I.Thakurdeen 30 and Monshin Perkhan 27 were the top run getters. Leg spinner Robert Moore’s 3-41 and Micheal Kendall 3-16 was not enough to save Scottsburg from losing a close battle.
The Bermine / Police first round match was postponed for the second time due to the Police team being unable to play as a result of mash events in Berbice.
The winner of this match would earn the right to play Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar to decide who plays Port Mourant in the lone semifinal clash.
