Play in the Annual National Sports Commission Mashramani Novice Table Tennis Tournament being played at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall continues on Friday with competition in two categories.
Action is set for the 8 years and under boys and girls departments from 15:30hrs and the 10 years and under boys and girls from 16:30hrs.
More matches have been fixed for Saturday starting from 09:00hrs with the 13 years and under boys and girls, 10:00hrs – 15 years and under boys and girls, 12:00hrs – 18 years and under boys and girls, with the continuation of matches scheduled from 14:00hrs and the junior doubles from 16:00hrs.
On Sunday play will continue from 09:00hrs, while the 21 years and under competitors will collide from 12:00hrs.
In results from preliminary action last Saturday; In the 10 years and under boy’s, Daniel Dawson a Comenius Primary School student, came out on top in the round robin playoff he defeated Green Acres Primary School student Kissoon at 11-5, 11-5 and Antoine Cobenna of Stella Maris Primary at 11-7, 11-6. Second place went to Kissoon he defeated Cobenna at 11-5, 11-5 with Cobenna finishing third.
The 10 years and under girls round robin play off saw Marian Academy Primary School Student Janaali Homer getting the better of Christal Henry of North Georgetown Primary at 11-5,11-6 and Ikia Thompson of Green Acres Primary 11-3,11-6. Second place went to Henry she defeated Thompson 11-2,11-6 while Thompson settled for third.
The Novice Open – Queen College Student Akeila Wiltshire won from a total of twenty (20) players, defeating Bishop High Olivia Weeks in the final at 11-3, 11-7, 11-5 (3-0), third place went to Jaleel Bagot of East Ruimveldt Secondary he got a walk over from Alex Davis of Mae’s School.
In the category for players never participating in a table tennis tournament; 26 entered. In the final results; Andrey Whyte (Central High) defeated Sachin Panday (St Joseph’s High) 11-8, 12-10, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8 (3-2) in the final, third place went to Klus Chin (St Joseph’s High) he defeated Terrence Hzeez (St Joseph’s High) at 11-2, 11-3, 11-4 (3-0).
This tournament is being co-ordinated by Linden Johnson and assisted by Inga Henry, who recently returned from Cuba with a degree in Physical Education and employed by National Sports Commission.
