Neal and Massy (N&M) Guyana Group honoured its Sports personalities for 2008 at an Awards ceremony last Friday evening at Neal and Massy Staff facilities at Ruimveldt.
Employees of NM Security Solutions (NMSS) and Associated Industries Ltd. (AINLIM) took home the lion share of prizes as they excelled in four sports disciplines contested during last year.
AINLIM won the Ashraf ‘Ash’ Ali Inter-Company Whist and the 20-over Tapeball Cricket tournaments, while NMSS carted off the Deo Persaud Billiards competition and dominated the Edward ‘Andy’ Andrews Memorial Dominoes tournament.
The two companies were engaged in a keen tussle with AINLIM winning the Whist competition with NMSS securing the runner up spot. NMSS ‘A’ defeated their ‘B’ team in the ‘Andy’ Andrews Memorial Dominoes with N&M Berbice Branch claiming the third position.
In the Deo Persaud Billiards, NMSS came out victorious from Neal and Massy Services Ltd. (NMSL) taking the runner up spot. Veteran player Stanley Fung-A-Fat was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Jerry Randolph of AINLIM copped the Most Improved Player award.
AINLIM/NMSL combination won the Inter-Company Tapeball competition beating NMDD in the final. Harold Baboolall of the winning team was voted the MVP and also made the scored the most runs in the tournament, while his teammate Marc Singh was named Man of the Match in the final.
Other awardees included Mohamed Safie (Best allrounder) and Ashraf Ali (Best wicketkeeper). Geddes Grant ‘B’ team also received a special prize.
Delivering the feature address, Human Resources officer Faye Bispham encouraged the companies to participate in upcoming sporting activities organized by the Sports Committee.
Sports Coordinator Rodnew McDonald said 2008 was a very successful year for the Group especially against other corporate entities and highlighted victories against Banks DIH at Tapeball cricket, and Dominoes against teams such as Bank of Guyana, Republic Bank and Ansa McAl. The 2009 programme will get underway in a few weeks time McDonald revealed.
