Windwards take 96-run first innings lead from CCC despite Austin’s 5-108

The Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC), trailing by 96 runs on first innings, reached five without loss in their second innings against the Windward Islands on the second day of their fourth round match in the WICB regional four-day competition on Saturday at the Three Ws Oval in Barbados.
Replying to the 227 made by the students, the Windwards were dismissed for 323 just before the close with West Indies ODI player Andre Fletcher, playing his first game of the season after being left out of the team for the last year’s regional one-day tournament in Guyana and the first two matches of this series, top scoring with 69.
Johnson Charles also scored a half-century (55) and opener Miles Bascobme stroked 49 before the lower order batsmen again contributed after Kevin James scored 41.
Pacer Marvin Matthew was last out for 40 while Shane Shillingford made 34.
Rawl Lewis, who resigned after his team’s last two consecutive defeats and then rescinded his decision, fell for 14 yesterday.
Trinidad-born former Barbados first-class off-spinner 27-year-old Ryan Austin grabbed 5-108; his fifth five-wicket haul at this level, while Jamel Noel 2-54 and Khismar Catlin 2-57 supported well.
Batting a second time, CCC, who beat Guyana outright in their last match, reduced the deficit to 91 with all of their second innings wickets in hand by the close yesterday.
Captain Simon Jackson on three and Omar Phillips on two were the not out batsmen heading into the penultimate day of the contest today.
