$5M in prize money up for grabs at Norman Singh horserace meet today

Some $5M in prize money will be up for grabs today at the Norman Singh Turf Club, situated at No 6 village West Coast Berbice, when they stage their one day horserace meet in collaboration with the Customs Racing Stable.

Eight races are listed and will feature 70 of the best of the country’s racehorses, which have taken entry, promising a scintillating day of racing.

The B class event, the Banks Premium Beer Classic, sponsored by Banks DIH has a sizeable $400,000 purse on offer for the winner and will be run over a distance of 1600m. This event boosts one of the most exciting line-up of racehorses with all capable of galloping to victory.

However, Sequins will definitely start as the favourite having run unbeaten it its last six events. Miss Republic has also been in top form and has run unstoppable, winning its last three events since entering the C class arena with some blinding finishes.

Stablemate Delmur Gold has been a champion in the past and has looked in excellent shape at gallops. Isle Be True which was another champion and had dominated this event in the past is also back after a long rest and is in the prime of condition. Added to the already mouthwatering line-up are Little Pannie. Laura lee in Flight, The Gap, and Four American bred horses in Annie’s Play Mate, Irish Gel along with two that came into the country just this week in Sweet Camel and Finally Jade.

Fireworks are expected in the 3yr old Derby event for horses Bred and Born in Guyana and the West Indies. Fans will see for the first time two newly imported horses from Jamaica in World Class and The Message running out of the Elcock stables, throwing down the gauntlet against the best in Guyana in a race that is already filled with top notch competitors.

With $350,000 on offer for the winner in the 1400m gallop, the likes of Jumbo Joy, Bad News, The Gap, Pinch the Cash, Showing Up and Tropical Passion can be expected not to give up ground and the prospects for an explosive event is anticipated.

The F and lower 1200m race also fields a full gate with horses including Miss Republic, Laura Lee in Flight, Sir Balajee, Face De Music, Fire Power, Alphabet, Matterazi, Fairy tale Romance, One of a Kind, Perfect Drift, Brown Boy and Brave heart facing the starters for the top prize of $220,000 in the 1200m contest.

The G and lower 1200m sprint is being touted as one of the top notch races on the days meet. Among the horses entered are Sir Balajee, Alphabet, The Gap, Kavinci, Brave heart, Cheyenne, Miami Vice, Finishing Touch and New World, World Class, One of a Kind, Fear Factor and Perfect Drift.

The two year old Maiden, non winners event will have a similar $160,000 prize money and will be run over 1000m. Prince Warrior is expected to be challenged by Teck A taste, Tidal Wave, Indian Flag, De Lyon, War path, Sun dancer and Fantastic Light.

The other races listed are the I and lower 1400m contest with $140,000 the winning purse, J and K, 1200m sprint, with a first prize $120,000 and the L class 1200m dash will see the winner collecting 100,000.

The weather has been good in most of Berbice and the track at Norman Singh, which has been recently relayed, has been dry and in excellent shape.

Five lucky persons will walk away with brand new Jailing Motor Scooters which they will win during a raffle to be drawn during the races, compliments of the organizers. Turfites are encouraged to ensure they have a ticket.

Race time is 13:00 hrs and Music will be supplied by the Rhythm Start International sound system.
