The Banks DIH sponsored Guinness ‘Greatest of De Street’ four a-side football competition has certainly taken the city by storm bring out large crowds since it kicked off last week.
Action switched to the East Ruimveldt Basketball Court on Tuesday evening and another colorful and animated crowd was on hand to absorb eight more exhilarating matches.
Skills and players not seen in the eleven or seven a-side versions of the game are very much a part of this small goal competition and the fans love every minute of it.
In Tuesday’s play, West Front Road’s Michael Oie netted the first double for the night to orchestrate the demolition of Aubrey Barker Road 3-1. The Aubrey Barker side never threatened the victory bid of the skillful West players.
Kemron Cameron had launched West into the lead before Oie took over the proceedings. Aubrey Barker Road were able to pull one back from the spot through Lloyd Barrow.
Also registering a double on the night was Daniel Favourite in Festival City’s 2-1 win over North East La Penitence. Cleyon Forester responded for North East.
Sophia also won by a similar score line against Kingston 2-1. Shemroy Arthur and Akeem Jaikissoon were the players on target for the winners while Nigel Denny tucked in Kingston’s lone goal.
Recording 1-0 wins were Fourth Street Alberttown over Leopold Street, Devon Smith’s effort the only bright spark of the encounter, Paul Bobb was the star in Holmes Street Tiger Bay’s win over Durban Street.
Three matches ended 1-1, Stevedore Scheme (K. Bobb) and Globe Yard (Mark Scott).
Alexander Village (Sheldon Gurrick) were held by and Charles Street (Sherwin Jacobs), while Broad Street ‘B’ (Tyram Small) and Alexander Street (Manu Ewis) also shared points equally. Eight more matches were scheduled for last evening at the Albouystown Basketball Court.
