Kaieteur Sports – Headquarters stormed to an empathetic win yesterday after putting on an exceptional all-round show to end this year’s Commissioner of Police T20 Cup as champions, after arresting the GPF Officers by 8-wickets during yesterday’s final played at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
After weeks of stiff competition and a continuous battle with the weather, the mouthwatering finale was played in the presence of a sold out crowd, both lawmen and women, former national players, fans amongst others; who were treated to almost 40 overs of brilliant cricket.
Opener and skipper Ravindradat Budhram steadied the Officers with 33 not out (3×4) after losing his partner Ronald Alli (15), a huge blow which set his team back.
Support came down the order as former Guyana and West Indies all-rounder Chris Barnwell hammered 25 off 12 with a pair of fours and sixes, alongside Stephen Harris who spanked 4 fours in his 24 off 23 balls.

All-rounder Ivor Trotz then wrapped up the game with a pair of maximums and a four to end on 22 not out off just 9 deliveries which essentially propelled the Officers to a modest 133-5 after 20 overs ended.
Spinner Kapildeo Charandeen led Headquarters bowling with brilliant returns of 2-11 from his 4 overs, with a wicket each from Pernell London (1-26), Dwain Dick (1-23) and Kanhaiya Ramkarran (1-38).
The chase was simple and brutal as the former national opener Lyght punched an unbeaten 49 off 37 (4×4 2×6), while his partner at the top, London returned to clobber a 18-ball 30 with 4 fours, as the pair added 55.
Man-of-the-match Dick, also came back with the willow and narrowly missed his half-century before nailing 5 sixes and a pair of fours in his brisk knock of 49 which put the finishing touches on the run pursuit.
Prior to the start of the final, Deputy Commissioner ‘Administration’ Mr. Budhram, who is also the Chairman of Guyana Police Force Cricket and Captain of the GPF Officers Team, presented a jersey to Commissioner Mr. Clifton Hicken during a brief ceremony held in the Commissioner’s Conference Room, Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.
With Headquarters and Officers fulfilling what was expected to be a brilliant return match from last year, the gesture was a symbol of unity, pride and the overall continued growth of cricket within GPF.
In the end, Headquarters raced to 134-2 with 7 overs remaining, handing the Officers a thrashing as Budhram (1-7) and veteran Troy Benn (1-27) tried to keep their side in the game.
Earlier, Commissioner of Police Mr. Hicken declared the final open after showing off a bit of his class with the bat after facing the first few deliveries prior to the start of the match.
The Commissioner spoke briefly ahead of the start of the match while wishing both teams the best.
