Guyana Softball League/Banks DIH 15 overs final
Rangers Sports Club humbles Regal XI by 9 wkts.
In a scintillating display of power hitting Rangers Sports Club of West Coast Demerara defeated Regal XI by 9 wickets to win the Banks DIH 15 overs softball tournament which saw a total of 58 teams competing.

In the final which attracted a large and vocal crowd at Thirst Park, Rangers Sports Club (RSC) won the toss and invited the star studded Regal XI to bat on a very good wicket.
Regal’s opening pair of Kapil Dev Singh (70) and Wasim HAslim (40) entertained in a spanking partnership of 96 off just 48 balls with the former smashing five sixes and four fours and the latter (4×4’s and 2x6s).
But with the introduction of Dhanraj Champalall who has been consistently breaking vital partnerships during the competition, Champalall uprooted Haslim’s leg stump as he attempted another mighty hit. He then sent back Zulfikar Ali, bowled by a beauty playing down the wrong line to slow the runs.
Mahendra Arjune (03) and Skipper Khalid Haslim (04) both suffered via the run out route while the experienced Lance Adams went for duck. Regal XI eventually ended on 143-5 from their allotted 15 overs. Champalall was the most successful bowler for RSC team.
When RSC started their reply, they lost Ameer Nizamudeen (05) bowled by Balram Roopnarine at 16-1 in the second over but his opening partner Riaz Karim a hard hitting right handed batsman took on the bowling and along with Zaheer Hanif another right hander who employed the sweep to good effect, consolidated and featured in an unbroken second wicket partnership of 130 runs off 69 balls that brought the crowd to its feet by making batting look easy against a good attack.
RSC ended on 146-1 with 3 overs to spare, Karim who took the man of the match award finishing on 77 off 32 balls clobbering eight huge sixes and a pair of fours. Hanif also cleared the boundary boards six times and reached the ropes on four occasions.
The win ensured RSC took the first lien on the Banks Trophy with Regal being outplayed in every department by the aggressive champion team.
Meanwhile in an exhibition game before the final, an East Bank team thrashed NCN XI who was visibly upset and emotional at the passing of their colleague Akila Jacobs, by 58 runs.
East Bank batted first and scored a mammoth 182-2 from 15 overs with man of the match Neville Persaud scoring a blistering unbeaten 72 (9x6s & 3x4s) and Anand Khemraj 52 not out (5x6s & 2×4’s) .
NCN was sent packing for 124 with 6 balls remaining, Jaden Samuels leading with 32 (1×6 & 4×4’s) and Captain John Ramsingh, 28.
At the presentation ceremony Communications Manager of Banks DIH Troy Peters congratulated Rangers Sports Club for emerging victorious in the final, while he pledged his company’s commitment to Softball Cricket.
Hyde Park Sports Club took home a trophy for being the most disciplined team, while the batsman with the most runs was Mark Harold of Trophy Stall XI. The best all rounder trophy was taken by Mahendra Arjune of Regal XI while 13 year old Ameer Khan of Farm Masjid received a medal for being the youngest player in the tournament.
The teams who reached the quarter finals and semis were presented with trophies.
