(Kaieteur News) – The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) has issued a call to foreign investors operating in Guyana, urging them to actively integrate local businesses into their supply chains amid growing concerns over economic exclusion.
In a formal statement released on Saturday, the chamber highlighted an increasing trend of domestic enterprises being bypassed by multinational corporations across various expanding sectors. “The participation of Guyanese in the extraction and development of the country’s natural resources, and opportunities arising from Guyana’s economic development must not be circumvented,” the GCCI stated. “Local participation remains crucial to the development of the country and its people.”
As Guyana continues to experience rapid economic growth driven primarily by its oil, gas, and natural resource sectors, the chamber emphasised that the benefits of this expansion must be shared equitably with the local economy.
The chamber concluded its statement by directly urging foreign investors not to exclude domestic enterprises from the lucrative procurement and operational opportunities arising from their local investments.
