Kaieteur Sports – The Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) Emancipation horserace meet is attracting overwhelming support with over 70 horses so far entered and a horde of sponsors already on board.
The event is set for August 2nd 2026 at the club’s prestigious Bush Lot Farm Corentyne, Berbice racetrack.
The much-anticipated event has seven races carded for the day with a palpitating $10M in cash, trophies and other prizes available for the winners and other outstanding performers.
The prestigious KMTC venue is one of the premiere horseracing venues in the country and has a penchant for organizing top class horseracing events.
Most of the races already have full entries. The Emancipation Cup, one mile contest, which is open to all 3-year old and over horses, is the feature event on the day’s card. A sumptuous $1M and trophy awaits the winner.
The event for E class non winners, which is also open to F and G class horses over seven furlongs, has a winning purse of $500,000 and a trophy.
There is the H and lower 7 furlongs event for a winner’s take of $400,000 and a trophy.
The race for three-year-old Guyana Bred maiden horses and three years old Guyana Bred maidens’ winner of one, will see the winner riding home with $400,000 and a trophy over the one mile distance.
There are two races for Guyana-Bred two-year-old maiden horses. The winners will run away with $350,000 each and trophies over 5 furlongs.
The final event is the race for the L Class Open horses over 7 furlongs for a pole position taking, of $350,000 and trophy.
There are trophies and other accolades for the top jockeys, trainers, stables etc. compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall and the organisers.
It has always attracted tremendous support in terms of horses’ sponsors and Turfites swarming the venue.
The day’s event will be conducted using the rules of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club. Race time is 12:30 hrs. (Samuel Whyte)
