Kaieteur Sports – Former Chelsea and France star Florent Malouda will be the center of attention when the French Guiana Veterans take on the GFF President’s XI in a special international veteran’s football match this evening at the National Training Centre, Providence.

Kick-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., with football fans expected to turn out in large numbers for a rare opportunity to witness one of France’s most decorated players in action on local soil.

The exhibition fixture is expected to be more than just a football match, serving as a celebration of the sport’s enduring appeal while strengthening the longstanding sporting ties between Guyana and neighbouring French Guiana. The encounter will feature several veteran players from both territories, with the Guyana Football Federation President’s XI aiming to provide a fitting challenge for their experienced visitors.

Malouda, who enjoyed a glittering professional career spanning nearly two decades, remains one of the biggest names to grace Caribbean football in recent years. The former winger earned 80 caps for France, scoring nine international goals, and represented Les Bleus at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where France finished runners-up, as well as UEFA Euro 2008 and Euro 2012.

At club level, Malouda was a key figure during Chelsea’s successful era, making more than 140 appearances for the London club. During his six seasons at Stamford Bridge, he captured the UEFA Champions League title (2012), the Premier League crown (2010), four FA Cups, the League Cup, and the FA Community Shield, cementing his place among the club’s notable modern-day players.

His visit is expected to inspire local footballers while giving supporters a chance to watch a player who competed alongside some of the biggest names in world football.

The celebrations will continue beyond Georgetown, with Malouda scheduled to travel to Linden on Friday, July 17, where football enthusiasts will have another opportunity to meet the former French international.

With a legendary name on display and regional pride on the rise, tonight’s veterans clash promises to deliver an entertaining spectacle as the GFF President’s XI and the French Guiana Veterans renew footballing friendships under the lights at Providence.
