Samuels half-century powers Patentia Sec’ to Samaroo Investment Tapeball title
Kaieteur Sports – A captain’s innings from Val Samuels guided Patentia Secondary to the Samaroo Investment-sponsored Secondary Schools Tapeball Cricket title after a thrilling five-wicket victory over Bishop’s High School at the National Cultural Centre tarmac on Saturday.
Chasing a challenging 102 for victory, Samuels produced a composed yet destructive unbeaten 67 to steer Patentia to 104-5 and secure the 2026 Bragging Rights Tapeball trophy.

Earlier, Bishop’s High laid down a competitive total of 101-3 after electing to bat first. Andrew Narine led the scoring with a fluent 44, while Aiyan Persaud added 28 during a productive partnership that anchored the innings.
Jadon Birch was the pick of the Patentia bowlers, finishing with figures of 2-29 to keep the target within reach.
Patentia’s reply was built around the brilliance of skipper Samuels, who weathered the early stages before shifting through the gears in spectacular fashion. After a cautious start, the left-hander unleashed a series of powerful strokes, dismantling the Bishops’ bowling attack with a match-winning half-century that ultimately carried his side across the finish line with five wickets to spare.
Andrew Narine returned to claim 2-28 for Bishop’s High, while Aditya Persaud supported with 2-41, but the duo were unable to halt Samuels’ commanding assault.
For his match-winning performance, Samuels was also named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
Attention now shifts to the next Uprising Promotions tournament, scheduled for Sunday, July 19, at the National Park tarmac from midday. Sponsored by the DC Metro Cricket Organization of the United States, the competition will feature three leading teams battling in a round-robin format for trophies, medals and other prizes.
The event is being organised by Uprising Promotions, formerly the Georgetown Office Assistants Promotion Committee (GOAPC), and will be coordinated by James “Uprising” Lewis.
