Kaieteur Sports – The 2026 National Junior Chess Championships Qualifiers saw the opening rounds being dominated by Candidate Master (CM) Sachin Pitamber and Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Aditi Joshi, who will be keen on closing out today when the tournament comes to an end at the Olympic House, Liliendaal.
The 7-round Swiss system competition overlooked by Chief Arbiter John Lee, is part of the national junior championship battle with defending champion Kyle Couchman at the top.
Group A saw players moving to three points from three games, with Pitamber defeating Alex Zhang and Joshi beating Ubaldo-Singh.
Singh went on a run after defeating Sam, leaving three players on maximum points at the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, the women’s category saw Joshi leading Group A on tie-breaks, followed by Singh and Pitamber, Alex Zhang and Abel Fernandez Ciria who trail closely.
Pitamber bagged full points against Nicholas Zhang, who had also entered the round with two wins from two games.
Joshi emerged from her third-round battle, defeating Ubaldo-Singh to remain among the leaders.
Alexander Zhang moved to 2.5 points with a win over Javier Davenand, while Arysh Raghunauth and Jaden Todd played to a draw.
Other winners included Abrams, Tinnie, Kishun, Narine, Dominic David Sam, Kaija Clement, Cole, Ramnarine, McDonald, and Pompey. Sharma and Pooran drew.
Also tied on 2 points each entering today’s final day are Swaminadha, Ubaldo-Singh, Zhang, Sam, Abrams, Cole, Clement, Tinnie, Narine, Raghunauth, Kishuna and Dominic Sam.
