Kaieteur Sports – The Rotary Club of New Amsterdam (RCNA) recently commissioned another Play Park and recreational facility for children and the elderly.
This was done in Fort Ordnance, East Canje. Next door to the Fort Ordnance Nursery School.
The RCNA, which is known for its benevolence over the years, continues to lead the way in providing facilities and assisting residents in the East Berbice area. The Play Park and Tarmac is expected to benefit thousands of residents, especially students of the nearby Fort Ordnance Nursery School.
Speaking at the simple ceremony which was held at the venue, immediate past President Roopnarine Hansraj, under whose watch the project was completed, was happy that the Club continues to do tangible things that benefits the community.
He emphasized the selflessness of Rotary, where members put things aside to help others in various spheres of life. Roopnarine hoped that the park would be fully utilised and taken care of.

Headmistress of the Fort Ordnance Nursery School Ms. Vanessa White, thanked the RCNA for constructing a project of such benefits near her school. She said that she knows that it would be of tremendous benefits for the students.
Ms. White emphasized the importance of such facilities especially for children of nursery school age.
She said that she has noticed the work of the RCNA over the years and the numerous community and other projects they have been involved in.
Also speaking at the ceremony was chairman of the Ordnance Fortlands NDC Ramsundar Phagwah who thanked the RCNA for the initiative.
The project was funded from cash raised by the RCNA during the year.
The park is fitted with slides, swings, sea saw boards among other facilities. Some of the equipment were imported from overseas.
The Project Coordinators were Rotarians Keine Reid and Korthright Thomas among others. (Samuel Whyte)
