Guyanese/WI pacer Joseph etches name in cricket T20 history books

Kaieteur Sports – Having made a big impression in Test cricket early on in his career, Guyanese speedster Shamar Joseph has written a new chapter in the history books; this time in T20I following the West Indies’ historic bilateral series win over the Sri Lankans.
Joseph concluded the series with a staggering 11 wickets, averaging a breakthrough roughly every six deliveries.
The Guyanese’ phenomenal three-game returns broke records across the region and placed him in elite global companies.

Joseph became the first West Indian bowler ever to secure 11 wickets in a three-match T20I bilateral series.
Following his feats, Joseph became the second bowler in international cricket history to achieve this milestone, matching the legendary benchmark set by Afghanistan skipper and leg-spinner Rashid Khan.
Joseph, who said after the T20 series that he wanted to return to the 150km/h bowling speed mark, consistently recorded numbers north of 140 km/h, combining lethal yorkers with an aggressive short-ball strategy that left the Asians searching for answers; as he looked like his peak self again after rehabbing from injuries.
In the series opener, Joseph paired with veteran all-round seamer Jason Holder, managed to choke Sri Lanka for just 147.
Joseph’s relentless line yielded 3 wickets and a much-needed 1-0 advantage after a comfortable 7-wicket win.
Despite a heavy batting collapse that saw Sri Lanka level the series by 43 runs, Joseph was a lone shining light with the ball, bagging three more scalps in a losing effort.
With the series tied 1-1, Joseph delivered his finest white-ball performance to date, even finding himself on a hat-trick inside the powerplay before ultimately wrapping up the innings with a spectacular 3-wicket burst in the depth stages, to register his maiden T20I five-wicket haul of 5-33.
Having kickstarted a new T20 World Cup chapter, Joseph will now shift his attention back to the red-ball format after officially being named in the West Indies Test squad.
Sri Lanka, having lost the limited overs series, will now look to make amends in a crucial two-match World Test Championship series which bowls off next week, June 25 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.
