(Kaieteur News) – The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) has recently awarded two contracts totaling $329,544,164 for the constructions of new fire stations, at Rosignol in Region Five and Cumberland in Region Six.
According to information provided on NPTAB’s website, the construction of the Cumberland Fire Station following the bidding process, the $180, 409, 805 contract was awarded to Green Plains Enterprise.
The construction of the Rosignol Fire Station was awarded to Westbrook Caribbean Inc. for $149,134,359. These projects are being executed through the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Kaieteur News understands that the Rosignol Fire Station will be the third station in Region Five when completed. There is a fire station currently under construction at Mahaicony. According to the Guyana Fire Service’s website, the only active fire station in Region Five is located at Onverwagt.
This publication understands that the Mahaica Fire Station would also provide services to communities in Region Five.
In Region Six, there are the Rose Hall, New Amsterdam and Corriverton Fire Stations.
The Ministry of Home Affairs reported that the new fire stations feature a waiting area, offices for the station officer and subordinate staff, an EMS office and storage room, IT and finance offices, a fire prevention officer’s office, conference and control rooms, and both senior and junior living quarters, to name a few.
Located in strategic areas to improve response time, enhance coordination, and ensure that firefighters can operate efficiently, the new fire stations form part of a broader national effort to modernise the Guyana Fire Service, strengthen preparedness, and support community resilience.
The Home Affairs Ministry received a budgetary allocation of $52.1B this year, and out of that sum, $6.3B has been allocated for the Guyana Fire Service’s programme.
