(Kaieteur News) – The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) said Sunday that water quality in Mackenzie and surrounding areas has returned to normal following reports of discoloration from local residents.
The utility company in a statement, said an investigation was launched after receiving complaints from customers regarding the appearance of their tap water. Technical teams determined that the temporary discoloration was caused by sediment entering the local distribution system.
GWI said it implemented swift corrective measures to resolve the issue. Operations teams conducted extensive flushing across the affected distribution network to clear the lines and significantly increased water-quality monitoring at both the treatment facility and key points within the community.
“Water quality has since returned to normal, with current monitoring showing clear water being supplied from the treatment facility,” GWI stated in an official update.
While conditions have normalised, the utility provider noted that monitoring will continue at a higher frequency across the network to guarantee that water standards remain consistent.
GWI expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to residents, thanking the community for its patience while crews resolved the issue.
