(Kaieteur News) – Customer Service and Credit emerged victorious at the Guyana Public Service Co-operative Credit Union Limited (GPSCCU) 60th Independence Inter-Department Cooking Competition, capping off an exciting afternoon filled with flavour, creativity, teamwork, and friendly rivalry.
In a press release, the credit union said four departments: Human Resource and Administrative, Corporate Services, Accounting and Finance, and Customer Service and Credit — faced off in the highly anticipated cook-up showdown held on the avenue opposite GPSCCU Headquarters on Hadfield Street on Friday, May 22, 2026.
The competition showcased not only culinary talent, but also strong team spirit, unity, and camaraderie among staff members, the release added.
Each department fielded a team comprising one Head Chef and two assistants, all determined to impress the judges with their presentation, originality, and mouthwatering dishes.
The event officially began at 2:00 p.m. and concluded at 4:45 p.m., attracting enthusiastic support from staff and curious passers-by who stopped to enjoy the lively atmosphere and enticing aromas.
Serving as judges were Eslyn Harris, Secretary to the GPSCCU Committee of Management; Desire Edghill, prominent actress, theatre personality, HIV/AIDS advocate, and Executive Director of Artistes in Direct Support; and Mr. Simple, Security Supervisor at GPSCCU Headquarters.
Teams were evaluated based on the following criteria:
The Credit Union said, all four departments delivered impressive presentations and demonstrated remarkable creativity throughout the competition. However, Customer Service and Credit ultimately secured the championship title with an outstanding cumulative score of 262.5 points.
Corporate Services placed second with 257.5 points, followed by Accounting and Finance with 247.5 points, while Human Resource and Administrative earned 208 points.
The creativity, effort, and teamwork displayed by all contestants reflected the vibrant and unified spirit of the Credit Union family.
Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Thompson congratulated all participating teams for their exceptional performances and described the event as a true celebration of togetherness and collaboration.
“This is what we can achieve when we come together have fun and create something special.”
Chairman, Trevor Benn also commended the teams and assisted with the presentation of prizes to the winning department.
As excitement from this year’s competition settles, anticipation is already building for next year’s showdown. The big question now is whether Customer Service and Credit can successfully defend their title or if Corporate Services will rise to claim the crown.
One thing remains certain — the GPSCCU Inter-Department Cooking Competition has become a winning recipe for fun, unity, and unforgettable memories.
