(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh when de government start fixing community roads all over de country, people used to stand up pun de roadside and clap. Billions and billions get spend. Every village now got concrete roads. Some places that used to got potholes big enough to hide a donkey now gah roads that are smooth like baby skin.
But dem boys seh de problem ain’t building de roads. De problem is what happen after.
No sooner de concrete dry, some people decide that de community road is now de fit fuh heavy duty use. All of a sudden, eighteen-wheel truck, excavator, bulldozer and machine bigger than a small house start parking in front people gate. One man got a truck so large that when he park it pun de road, neighbours got to use GPS to find a way around.
Dem boys seh some of dem roads only built fuh bicycle, lil car and Miss Sheila carrying she market bag. But now de road carrying more weight than Parliament debate. Every night yuh hearing “grrrrrrmmm!” and whole village shaking like if earthquake pass through. By morning, de same nice road start to show wear and tear.
And then de funniest thing is hearing people complain about potholes that demself create. One truck man hollering that de road bruk up bad. He blame the contractor that build the road. But he did not consider that was he heavy duty vehicles that bruck up de road.
Government spending billions building roads, and some people destroying dem free of cost. That is a better return on investment than some businesses.
Dem boys seh community roads should have tonnage restriction. Put up barriers. If de truck too big, park it in a proper yard. Community road is not a showroom for heavy-duty machinery. Some of dem truck park pun de road so long, grass growing under de tire
And children using dem as landmark. “Turn left by de blue truck that been park there since Christmas.”
Strictly speaking, heavy-duty vehicle and massive truck should not deh pun community road. Dem blocking traffic, cracking drains, damaging parapets and pounding de road into submission.
Dem boys seh at dis rate government gon have to start building roads with titanium and reinforced steel. Or maybe put signboard at de village entrance: “Welcome. Kindly remove bulldozer before entering.”
Talk half. Leff half.
