(Kaieteur News) – Two bandits on Friday reportedly beat an office administrator employed with Nabi Construction Inc. and grabbed some $3 million dollars in cash that he was to pay workers at one of the company’s worksites located at Prospect, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The bandits also grabbed his Samsung Galaxy S24 cellular phone and an additional $100,000 from another employee.
Police said the armed robbery took place around 15:15hrs at the Prospect Secondary School Compound and described the suspects as men of African descent clad in black jumpsuits.
One was masked while the other was not and both of them, according to police were armed with handguns.
The Office Administrator told police that he was in one of Nabi Construction Inc.’s container offices paying construction workers when the men attacked.
He was handed cash by another employee who bandits also robbed while they were making their escape and both of them began the payment process by placing monies into individual envelopes.
When there were 16 more envelopes to hand out, the colleague reportedly left the office while the office administrator remained.
The two bandits then walked to the office and held him at gunpoint. They instructed him not to move before he lashed him in his head with a handgun. He fell to the ground and was reportedly kicked about his body as he lay on the ground.
The bandits grabbed the money from the 16 envelopes that remained and stole his cellphone.
The colleague reported that he was robbed too by the bandits while standing in the compound.
He said the armed men removed $100,000 from his pocket.
Police learnt that the bandits escaped on a Honda XR motorcycle without a number plate.
Investigations are ongoing.
