Access road to Groete Gold Project nears completion
(Kaieteur News) – The 13-kilometre road and bridges being constructed by Canadian miner Gold Port Corporation to provide access to its Groete Gold Copper Project in Guyana are nearing completion.
Gold Port owns 100% of the Groete Gold Project, where exploration began in 2012. Drilling in 2019 identified an Inferred Mineral Resource of 1.57 million gold-copper equivalent ounces, including about 1.1 million ounces of gold and 195 million pounds of copper contained in 74 million tonnes.
The project is located 64 kilometres west-southwest of Georgetown, the capital of Guyana, and 11 kilometres west of the Essequibo River. In a recent statement, Gold Port disclosed that construction of the Groete Gold Copper Project access road from the Manaka Road on the east bank of the Essequibo River to the project drill site at Groete Creek is progressing as the project continues to advance towards its drilling programme.

“Debrushing has now been completed to within 1 mile of the Gold Port Camp at the Groete Project. Road construction has progressed well with a sixty percent widening of the prior trail system. A source of laterite has been located and road material has been stockpiled for future use,” the company said.
It further disclosed that two all-season bridges have been completed, while two existing culverts were replaced with bridges. The team is expected to begin construction of the final bridge. Gold Port Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) stated, “The ongoing construction of infrastructure at the Groete Gold Copper Project marks an important first step toward supporting our upcoming drill program. Management continues to plan ahead to keep the project progressing efficiently and on schedule, while ensuring the work is carried out to the highest standard. In anticipation of access completion, the Company owned MP Explorer track mounted diamond drill located in storage will be re-commissioned for service”.

Construction of the access road and bridges commenced last month. In October 2025, the company announced that it had selected Jaisingh’s Equipment Rental (JER) of Georgetown, Guyana, for the construction of approximately 13 kilometres of dirt road access, including some bridge and drainage construction, to its Groete Gold Copper Project.
However, in a February 2026 statement, Gold Port said that after several attempts and additional issues with the project, it decided to pivot and purchase heavy equipment and complete the road development with existing staff. The company’s renewed interest in the project was triggered by high gold prices. Gold Port said that amid rising gold prices, it completed a review of the project, while in 2024, the company’s permits were renewed by the Government of Guyana through the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC).
The three permits, covering a combined 1,384 hectares (approximately 3,400 acres), were recently further renewed.
