Warriors secure win over Knight Riders

The Guyana Amazon Warriors kept their playoff hopes alive with a 25 run win over the Trinbago Knight Riders in the 2026 Limacol WCPL. Runs for Shermaine Campbell and wickets from Shabnim Ismail and Shamillia Connell set up the win which leaves all teams still in contention for this year’s title.

The Amazon Warriors innings started brightly enough with 17-year-old opening batter, Eboni Brathwaite, taking the attack to a very strong Knight Riders bowling attack. She smacked the hugely experienced Marizanne Kapp for six but the South African came back to bowl her with one that nipped back for 13 from 6.

In the face of the pace bowling of Kapp and Shikha Pandey the Amazon Warriors really struggled to match Brathwaite’s cameo. Shermaine Campbelle continued her fine form and she backed up the half century she made in the Amazon Warriors opening match with 31 from 28 balls in this game.

Laura Harris claimed the wicket of Campbelle to put real pressure on the Amazon Warriors in the death overs with two new batters, Then Pandey dismissed both Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon in the space of three balls to make things even harder for the Guyanese franchise. In the end they reached 119/8 and were in need of a good bowling performance to them over the line.

That is exactly what the Amazon Warriors got with Shabnim Ismail and Shamillia Connell ripping out the Knight Riders top order inside the power play. After the first six overs the Knight Riders were 22/5, and it could have been even better if Connell hadn’t put down a chance off her own bowling to claim another wicket.

With Harris, Kapp, Deandra Dottin, Jannillea Glasgow and Yastika Bhatia all gone inside the opening overs it was left to Madeline Penna to try and guide the Knight Riders home. She hit Ashmini Munisar for six in attempt to get the run rate under control but was caught in the deep attempting to repeat the trick off the next ball.

When Penna departed it was left to the tail to swing for the fences and that led to more wickets falling with Amazon Warriors claiming a big win ahead of their final group game against the Barbados Tridents on Sunday. (CPLT20)
