(Kaieteur News) – With the many flourishing small businesses in our society, young entrepreneurs are demonstrating that taking a chance on yourself and pursuing your passion and dreams is not a bad decision after all.
One such individual who took a chance on herself by pursuing her passion and turning it into a thriving business is 28-year-old Nikito Lochan, a mother and wife, and the proud owner of ‘Niks Treats’.
In a recent interview with this publication, Lochan said baking sweet treats all stemmed from her love for cooking. “I figured out I love cooking when I was about 15. The baking part started about 5 years ago,” she shared.
Coming from a family who love to cook and bake, like her mother and aunts, Lochan said “they didn’t pique my interest.”
“I think young entrepreneurs play a huge role in society. To know that we are not just caught up on social media and we want to actually make life for ourselves, it can be inspiring to the kids that are growing up in today’s world, where there are so many distractions. – Nikito Lochan”
According to her “It kind of just started one day when my mom cooked something I didn’t want to eat and I decided to try creamy pasta that I saw from watching food network every day.”
Explaining what led to ‘NiksTreats’ which officially launched on February 12, 2026, the young woman disclosed that “My Tik Tok page is all about food…So one day I woke up and thought to myself, I should start making something to sell, at least gain something out of what I love doing.”
From there her entrepreneurial journey began. Lochan said when she initially started; she began introducing something called “Brigadeiros” a popular Brazilian sweet treat. “And while most Guyanese don’t know what a brigadeiro is, they still seem to enjoy it,” she added.
Shortly after, she decided to introduce Gourmet Cookies to the menu, noting it was such a good decision based on the support she has been gaining, she said.
“The idea behind this was to create a beautiful, premium package with delicious treats that people love and want to gift to their loved ones on special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, baby showers, gender reveals and so much more,” Lochan stated.
Her tasty treats which have been stealing the taste buds of many, Lochan mentioned to this publication that since her launch, the support has been great thus far. “I’ve had repeat customers and many new customers as well. I am so grateful for them,” she expressed.
Even though the support has been great, she did not shy away from the fact that this journey has had it challenges too. According to the small business owner, “Some challenges I’ve faced so far have been slow periods where sales were not great but I kept pushing my content until business picked up again.”
She informed also that she has had difficulties with managing the finances but in overcoming this, she did a few courses to learn to management these better and it has helped.
While she is trying to navigate this journey, it is not one she is handling alone. While she does not have a co-owner, she added that her husband, Christopher is her biggest supporter and her number one fan. “Without him by my side, I would not be able to do any of this,” she expressed.
With a lot yet in store for NiksTreats, Lochan said that her long-term goal is to one day open a cafe. “To be able to sell my baked goods and coffee would be living my dream,” she commented.
In her interview also, the young entrepreneur said that she also owns another small business called ‘NiksMedia’ where she does content creation for brands, poster and logo designs, and Marketing and Social Media management for some clients.
Showing the younger generations what is possible when you just believe in yourself, Lochan is of the view that “I think young entrepreneurs play a huge role in society. To know that we are not just caught up on social media and we want to actually make life for ourselves, it can be inspiring to the kids that are growing up in today’s world where there are so many distractions.”
