– sergeant arrested as OPR launches probe
Kaieteur News – A police sergeant has been arrested as the Guyana Police Force launches an investigation into the disappearance of seven firearms and 68 rounds of ammunition from the arms room at the Cove and John Police Station in Regional Division #4 ‘C’.
The missing weapons: four 9mm pistols and three .32 pistols were discovered unaccounted for on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, during routine checks followed by an audit of firearms and exhibits stored at the station, police confirmed in a press release.
Despite further searches, the items could not be located. The incident was immediately reported through the chain of command, prompting the Office of Professional Responsibility to open a formal probe. Investigators have since collected multiple statements and secured relevant records as part of the ongoing inquiry. Authorities say all necessary investigative and operational steps are being taken to determine how the weapons went missing and to ensure their swift recovery.
