Kaieteur Sports – Cricket West Indies (CWI) President Dr. Kishore Shallow and CEO Chris Dehring recently responded after Barbados Prime Minister, Mia Mottley, lashed out following the decision to leave the legendary Kensington Oval off the 2026 host venues for all regional and international games.
During the latest episode of the Mason and Guest show which featured both Dehring and Shallow, among others, the CWI president first addressed a number of topics following the financial reconstruction of cricket across the Caribbean, which seemingly will affect all territories in a number of ways.
Touching on the latest comment made by former Minister in the Ministry of finance in Trinidad, Mariano Browne, regarding the 2025 CWI Financial Report that he stated was a “PR Document”’ made out of “ignorance”, Shallow said Browne never read the Audit Report and was wrong to make such a comment. Meanwhile, CWI CEO, Chris Dehring, another guest alongside Shallow on the Mason Show, chimed in on Browne’s comment citing it as unfortunate.
In his defense, Browne said he was sticking to his position that it was a PR Document and had nothing to apologise for.
Dehring also disagreed with Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) President, Calvin Hope, who recently lashed out at the CWI for the current selection process; with Dehring responding by saying that Barbados over the last five years has seen a lot of cricket played there.
Dr. Shallow summed up that the rising costs associated with hosting games across multiple venues within the Caribbean has basically become unsustainable from a financial perspective.
The comments were in response to Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley recently highlighting a shift in Barbados’ cricket strategic plans.
Her comments followed after CWI confirmed the legendary Kensington Oval was cut from all regional Tests, ODIs and T20Is for 2026.
The upcoming home series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand and Pakistan, bowls off in June and ends August but will only be hosted by Jamaica, Antigua, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana.
The Prime Minister made it clear that Barbados can no longer rely solely on CWI to push the sport’s developmental endeavors.
Shallow expressed disappointment with Mottley’s position on the situation, further adding that Barbados could have footed the bill which would have then allowed them to host games.
