West Side Alliance takes 2026 Hamilton Green Cup title …Tournament coordinator Lennox Arthur and name bearer Hamilton Green share photo-op with winning team on Thursday
Kaieteur Sports – West Side Alliance stamped their authority as the country’s premier nine-a-side football team on Thursday evening, defeating Mahaica in a thrilling Hamilton Green 30-minute Inter-Ward Football final to secure the 2026 title before a modest crowd at Plaisance ground.
The champions entered the final in commanding form, having brushed aside two formidable opponents; Zeelugt and Golden Stars in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds respectively. Mahaica, equally determined, carved their path to the decider with a hard-fought win over Mocha before edging past Plaisance in a tense semifinal that required penalty kicks. After a goalless 30 minutes, Mahaica prevailed 2-1 from the spot to book their place in the final.
With the stage set, both sides began the championship clash with intensity and purpose. West Side Alliance struck first, breaking the deadlock ten minutes into the contest to take a 1-0 lead. Mahaica responded swiftly, capitalising on a well-worked play to level the score just before halftime, ensuring a 1-1 deadlock at the break.

Anticlimactic finish for Mahaica as West Side Alliance storms to 3-1 win to lift the Annual nine-a-side Football title

Action before the final! Former Prime Minister and Mayor of Georgetown Hamilton Green and party of officials greeting the finalists ahead of Thursday night’s final.
With fatigue looming after multiple matches, fitness proved decisive in the second half. West Side Alliance demonstrated superior endurance and composure, regaining the lead midway through the half with a superbly executed free kick. They extended their advantage soon after, converting another set-piece opportunity to put the contest beyond doubt at 3-1.
Mahaica, despite a spirited showing, had to settle for second place and a $200,000 prize. In the third-place playoff, Golden Stars defeated Plaisance 1-0 to claim $100,000 along with medals and a trophy, leaving Plaisance in fourth position.
West Side Alliance, as tournament champions, walked away with $500,000, medals, and the championship trophy.
Organisers hailed the successful staging of another Hamilton Green Cup and extended gratitude to corporate sponsors, including Toolsie Persaud, Aurora, G MIN Ventures, China Trading, Busta, Gafoors, BK International, JCA, IPA, New Thriving Restaurant, Cumming Electrical Company, ENet, Stars Rental, Ricks and Sari, Kings Liquor Store, and Correia & Correia, for their continued support.
